"Ding-dong! Ding-dong!" rings out from the Bell Deep in the Odense River.
"딩-동! 딩-동!" 오덴세 강의 Bell Deep에서부터 소리가 난다.
And what sort of river is that?
그런데 그것은 어떤 종류의 강인가?
Why, every child in Odense Town knows it well.
뭐, 오덴세 마을의 모든 아이들이 그 강을 잘 안다.
It flows around the foot of the gardens,
그 강은 정원기슭의 주변으로 흐른다,
from the locks to the water mill,
바위에서 부터 물방앗간까지,
under the wooden bridges.

Yellow water lilies grow in the river,
노란 수련들이 그 강에서 자란다,
and brown, featherlike reeds, and the black, velvety bulrushes,

so high and so thick.
매우 높고 매우 울창히
Decayed old willow trees,
썩은 오래된 버드나무들은
bent and gnarled,
굽어지고 비틀어져 있으며,
hang far over the water beside the monks' marsh and the pale meadows;
수도승들의 늪과 엷은 초원 사이에 있는 물 위로 상당히 높게 늘어져 있다.
but a little above are the many gardens,

each very different from the next.
각각의 정원은 서로 매우 다르다.
Some have beautiful flowers and arbors as clean and neat as dolls' houses,

while some have only cabbages,

no attempts at formal gardens can be seen at all,

only great elder trees stretching out and overhanging the running water,

which in places is deeper that an oar can measure.
