고양이에게 방울 달기

The Mice once called a meeting to decide on a plan to free themselves of their enemy, the Cat.

예전에 쥐들은 그들의 적인 고양이로부터 자유를 찾을 계획을 결정 하기위해 회의를 소집했다.

At least they wished to find some way of knowing when she was coming, so they might have time to run away.

적어도 그들은 고양이가 언제 오는지에 대한 어떤 방법을 찾고 싶었다, 그때문에 그들은 달아날 수 있는 시간을 가질지도 몰랐다.

Indeed, something had to be done,

정말로, 어떤 일이 행해져야만 했다,

for they lived in such constant fear of her claws that they hardly dared stir from their dens by night or day.

왜냐하면 그들은 그녀의 발톱을 너무 두러워 하고 있어서 밤에도 낮에도 그들의 소굴에서부터 거의 감히 이동하지  못 했다.

Many plans were discussed, but none of them was thought good enough.

많은 계획들이 토론 되었지만, 그것들 중 어떤 것도 충분히 좋다라고 생각 되지 못 했다.

At last a very young Mouse got up and said:

마침내 한 매우 어린 쥐가 일어나서 말했다.

"I have a plan that seems very simple, but I know it will be successful.

저는 매우 간단해 보이는 계획이 있습니다만, 그것은 성공할 거라는 것을 압니다.

All we have to do is to hang a bell about the Cat's neck.

우리가 해야만 하는 모든 것은 고양이 목에 방울을 다는 것입니다.

When we hear the bell ringing we will know immediately that our enemy is coming."

우리가 그 방울이 울리는 것을 들을 때 우리는 우리의 적이 다가 오고 있는 것을 즉시 알 것입니다.

All the Mice were much surprised that they had not thought of such a plan before.

모든  쥐들은 이전에 그러한 계획에 대해 생각하지 못 했다는 것에 많이 놀랐다.

But in the midst of the rejoicing over their good fortune, an old Mouse arose and said:

그러나 그러한 좋은 행운에 대해 기뻐하는 가운데, 한 늙은 쥐가 일어나서 말했다.

"I will say that the plan of the young Mouse is very good.

어린 쥐의 계획은 매우 좋다고 봅니다만,

But let me ask one question:

하나의 질문을 해 볼게요.

Who will bell the Cat?"

누가 고양이에게 방울을 답니까?

_It is one thing to say that something should be done, but quite a different matter to do it._

어떤 일이 행해져야만 한다고 말하는 것과 그것을 하는 것은 상당히 다른 문제다.
