THE EAGLE AND THE JACKDAW

독수리와 갈까마귀

An Eagle, swooping down on powerful wings, seized a lamb in her talons and made off with it to her nest.

한 독수리가 강력하게 날면서 급강하하여 발톱으로 새끼 양을 잡아서 둥지로 급히 갔다.

A Jackdaw saw the deed,

갈까마귀는 그 행동을 봤다,

and his silly head was filled with the idea that he was big and strong enough to do as the Eagle had done.

So with much rustling of feathers and a fierce air,

A Wolf, meeting with a Lamb astray from the fold,

resolved not to lay violent hands on him,

Again said the Wolf:

"You drink of my well."
"너는 나의 샘(=우물)을 조금 마셨어."
"No," exclaimed the Lamb,
"아니요," 그 새끼 양이 큰 소리로 말했다,
"I never yet drank water,
"저는 결코 아직 물을 마시지 않았어요,
for as yet my mother's milk is both food and drink to me."
왜냐하면 지금까지는 저의 엄마의 우유가 저에게는 음식이고 음료이기 때문입니다."
On which the Wolf seized him,
그 말에 그 늑대가 그를 잡았다,
and ate him up, saying:
그리고 그를 다 먹어버렸다, 말하면서: 즉
"Well! I won't remain supperless,

even though you refute every one of my imputations."

The tyrant will always find a pretext for his tyranny,
