THE SHEEP AND THE PIG

양과 돼지

One day a shepherd discovered a fat Pig in the meadow where his Sheep were pastured.

어느날 한 양치기가 그의 양들이 방목 되고 있는 목초지에서 살찐 돼지를 발견했다.

He very quickly captured the porker,

그는 매우 빨리 그 돼지를 잡았다,

which squealed at the top of its voice the moment the Shepherd laid his hands on it.

그리고 그 돼지는 그 양치기가 그에게 손을 데는 순간에 목소리를 최대한 높여 비명을 질렀다.

You would have thought, to hear the loud squealing, that the Pig was being cruelly hurt. 

그 시끄러운 비명소리를 들었다면, 당신은 그 돼지가 잔인하게 상처입었을거라고 생각했을 것이다.

But in spite of its squeals and struggles to escape,

하지만 그 비명과 탈출하려는 노력에도 불구하고,

the Shepherd tucked his prize under his arm

그 양치기는 그의 상품을 팔에 쑤셔 넣고

and started off to the butcher's in the market place.

시장에 있는 정육점으로 출발했다.

The Sheep in the pasture were much astonished and amused at the Pig's behavior, 

목초지의 양들이 그 돼지의 행동에 많이 놀라고 즐거워서,

and followed the Shepherd and his charge to the pasture gate.

양치기를 따라서 목초지 정문으로 가라는 명령을 따랐다.

"What makes you squeal like that?" asked one of the Sheep.

"왜 그렇게 비명을 질러?" 양들 중 하나가 물었다.

"The Shepherd often catches and carries off one of us.

"양치기는 자주 우리 중 하나를 잡아서 끌고간다."

But we should feel very much ashamed to make such a terrible fuss about it like you do."

하지만 우리는 너처럼 끔찍한 야단법석을 떠는 것에 많은 수치심을 느낀다.

"That is all very well," replied the Pig, with a squeal and a frantic kick.

"비명과 광란의 발길질은 어쩔 수 없다," 그 돼지가 대답했다.

"When he catches you he is only after your wool.

그가 너희를 잡을때, 그는 너희의 양털만 목적일 뿐이다.

But he wants my bacon! gree-ee-ee!"

하지만 그는 나의 베이컨을 원한다! 승리의 상품!

_It is easy to be brave when there is no danger._

독수리와 갈까마귀

An Eagle, swooping down on powerful wings, seized a lamb in her talons and made off with it to her nest.

한 독수리가 강력하게 날면서 급강하하여 발톱으로 새끼 양을 잡아서 둥지로 급히 갔다.

A Jackdaw saw the deed,

갈까마귀는 그 행동을 봤다,

and his silly head was filled with the idea that he was big and strong enough to do as the Eagle had done.

그리고 그의 어리석은 머리는 독수리가 했었던 것처럼 자신도 할 수 있을 만큼 충분히 크고 강하다는 생각으로 가득찼다

So with much rustling of feathers and a fierce air,

그래서 깃털을 많이 부스럭 거리면서 사나운 공기와 함께,

he came down swiftly on the back of a large Ram.

그는 큰 숫양의 등에 빠르게 내려왔다.

But when he tried to rise again he found that he could not get away,

하지만 그가 다시 날아 오르려고 노력할 때 도망갈 수 없다는 것을 알았다,

for his claws were tangled in the wool.

왜냐하면 그의 발톱이 양모에 얽혔기 때문이다.

And so far was he from carrying away the Ram,

그리고 그가 숫양을 채 가기는 커녕

that the Ram hardly noticed he was there.

The Shepherd saw the fluttering Jackdaw and at once guessed what had happened.

양치기가 펄럭이는 갈까마귀를 보고는 즉시 무슨 일이 일어났는지 추측했다.

Running up, he caught the bird and clipped its wings.

뛰어 올라가서, 그는 그 새를 잡아서 그 날개를 잘랐다.

That evening he gave the Jackdaw to his children.

그날 저녁에 그는 그의 아이들에게 갈까마귀를 주었다.

"What a funny bird this is!" they said laughing, "what do you call it, father?"

"재미있는 새다! 뭐라고 불러요, 아빠?"라고 아이들이 웃으며 말했다.

"That is a Jackdaw, my children.

"그것은 갈까마귀야, 아이들아.

But if you should ask him, he would say he is an Eagle."

하지만 만약에 너희들이 그에게 물어본다면, 그는 독수리라고 말할 것이다."
