A Dog and a Cock, who were the best of friends, wished very much to see something of the world.

가장 친한 친구인 개와 수탉은 세상의 어떤 것을 매우 많이 보고 싶어했다.

So they decided to leave the farmyard and to set out into the world along the road that led to the woods.

그래서 그들은 농가를 떠나서 숲으로 이어지는 길을 따라서 세상속으로 나갈 것을 결정했다.

The two comrades traveled along in the very best of spirits and without meeting any adventure to speak of.

그 두 동료는 가장 기분이 좋고 어떤 말할 만한 모험도 마주치지 않고 빨리 걸었다.

At nightfall the Cock, looking for a place to roost, as was his custom, spied nearby a hollow tree that he thought would do very nicely for a night's lodging.

해질녁에 습관처럼 잠자리에 들 장소를 찾으면서 수탉은 생각하기에 하룻밤의 숙박을 위해선 정말로 충분할 것 같은 근처의 속이 빈 나무를 관찰했다.

The Dog could creep inside and the Cock would fly up on one of the branches.

So said, so done, and both slept very comfortably.

With the first glimmer of dawn the Cock awoke.

새벽의 첫 희미한 빛에 그 수탉은 눈을 떴다.

For the moment he forgot just where he was.

He thought he was still in the farmyard where it had been his duty to arouse the household at daybreak.

"If you will please go around to the door of my house at the foot of the tree, my porter will let you in."

"만약에 당신이 기꺼이 나무의 아랫 부분에 있는 저의 집의 문으로 돌아오신다면, 저의 문지기가 당신을 안으로 들여 보낼 겁니다."

The hungry but unsuspecting Fox, went around the tree as he was told,

and in a twinkling the Dog had seized him.

A Dog, used to eating eggs,

saw an Oyster,

and opening his mouth to its widest extent,

A Dog used to run up quietly to the heels of those he met,

A Dog and a Cock, traveling together,
함께 여행하고 있는, 개와 수탉이
took shelter at night in a thick wood.
울창한 숲 속에서 밤에 대피하였다.
The Cock perched himself on a high branch,

while the Dog found a bed at the foot of the tree.

When morning dawned,

the Cock, as usual, crowed very loudly.

A Fox, hearing the sound, and wishing to make a breakfast on him,

came and stood under the branches,

saying how earnestly he desired to make the acquaintance of the owner of so sweet a voice.

that he may open the door,

" On the Fox approaching the tree,
"그 여우가 나무에 접근하자 마자,
the Dog sprang out and caught him and quickly tore him in pieces.
