THE LION AND THE MOUSE
사자와 생쥐
A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws.
사자가 그의 큰 머리를 발위에 얹은 채 숲속에서 잠이 들었다.
A timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly,
겁많은 어린 생쥐가 그에게 갑자기 다가와서,
and in her fright and haste to get away, ran across the Lion's nose.
놀라서 서둘러 달아나서 사자의 코를 가로질러 달렸다.
Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her.
낮잠에서 깬 사자가 그녀를 죽이기 위해 작은 생명체 위에 그의 거대한 발을 화가 나서 올렸다.
"Spare me!" begged the poor Mouse.
용서해 주세요! 그 불쌍한 생쥐가 간청했다.
"Please let me go and some day I will surely repay you."
저를 가게 해 주시면 언젠가 분명히 보답할게요.
The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him.
사자는 생쥐가 언젠가 그를 도울 수 있다고 생각에 상당히 즐거웠다.
But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go.
그는 관대했고 결국 그 생쥐를 놓아주었다.
Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest,
며칠 후에, 숲속에서 그의 먹이 몰래 접근하는 동안,
the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter's net.
그 사자는 사냥꾼의 그물에 걸려 잡혔다.
Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring.
탈출할 수 없어서, 그는 성난 포효로 그 숲을 채웠다.
The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net.
그 생쥐는 그 목소리를 알았고 그 사자기 그물에서 발버둥치는 것을 빨리 발견했다.
Running to one of the great ropes that bound him,
그를 묶은 큰 밧줄 중 하나에게 달려가서,
she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.
그것이 잘라질 때까지 갉았다, 그리고 곧 그 사자는 풀려났다.
"You laughed when I said I would repay you," said the Mouse.
제가 당신에게 보답할 거라는 말에 당신은 웃었죠?, 그 생쥐가 말했다.
"Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion."
이제 생쥐라도 사자를 도울 수 있다는 것을 알겠지요.
