THE ASS AND HIS DRIVER
당나귀와 그의 주인
An Ass was being driven along a road leading down the mountain side,
당나귀 한 마리는 산허리를 아래로 통하는 길을 따라서 운전되고 있었다,
when he suddenly took it into his silly head to choose his own path.
그리고 그때 그는 갑자기 어리석게 자기 자신의 길을 선택하기로 생각하기 시작했다.
He could see his stall at the foot of the mountain,
그는 산기슭에서 그의 마구간을 볼 수 있었다,
and to him the quickest way down seemed to be over the edge of the nearest cliff.
그리고 그에게 있어서 내려가는 가장 빠른 길은 가장 가까운 낭떠러지의 끝에 있는 것 같았다.
Just as he was about to leap over,
마침 그가 막 뛰어 건너려고 할 때,
his master caught him by the tail
그의 주인이 그의 꼬리를 잡고
and tried to pull him back,
그를 후퇴시키려고 했지만,
but the stubborn Ass would not yield and pulled with all his might.
그 고집 센 당나귀는 양보하지 않고 힘껏 당겼다.
"Very well," said his master, "go your way, you willful beast, and see where it leads you."
"매우 잘했다," 그의 주인이 말했다, "너의 길을 가라, 너는 고집 센 짐승이니깐, 그리고 그것이 너를 어디로 안내하는지를 봐라."
With that he let go,
그 말과 함께 그는 놓아주었다,
and the foolish Ass tumbled head over heels down the mountain side.
그리고 그 어리석은 당나귀는 산허리 아래로 거꾸로 넘어졌다.
_They who will not listen to reason but stubbornly go their own way against the friendly advice of those who are wiser than they, are on the road to misfortune._
도리를 따르지 않고 자신보다 더 현명한 사람들의 친근한 충고에 반하는 길을 고집스럽게 가는 사람들은 불행으로 가고 있다.
