The Hares and the Frogs

토끼와 개구리

The Hares,
산토끼들이,
oppressed with a sense of their own exceeding timidity,
그들 자신의 엄청난 겁많음의 감각으로 압박받고,
and weary of the perpetual alarm
끊임 없는 놀람에 싫증난 (산토끼)
to which they were exposed,
그들이 노출되는 (놀람),
with one accord
다 함께
determined to put an end to themselves and their troubles,
그들 자신과 그들의 문제를 끝낼 것을 결심했다,
by jumping from a lofty precipice into a deep lake below.
아주 높은 절벽에서 아래에 깊은 호수 속으로 뛰어들어서

As they scampered off in a very numerous body
그들이 매우 수 많은 덩어리로 급히 사라졌을 때
to carry out their resolve,
그들의 결심을 실행하기 위해서,
the Frogs lying on the banks of the lake
그 호수의 제방 위에 누워 있던 개구리들이
heard the noise of their feet,
그들의(산토끼들의) 발 소리를 듣고,
and rushed helter-skelter to the deep water for safety.
안전을 위해 깊은 물로 당황하여 돌진했다.
On seeing the rapid disappearance of the Frogs,
그 개구리들의 재빠른 사라짐을 보자마자,
one of the Hares cried out to his companions:
그 산토끼들 중의 하나가 그의 동료들에게 큰 소리로 말했다:
"Stay, my friends,
"멈춰, 나의 친구들,
do not do as you intended;
너희들이 의도한대로 하지 마;
for you now see
왜냐하면 너희들은 지금 보기 때문이야.
that other creatures who yet live
아직 살고 있는 다른 생물들이
are more timorous than ourselves."
우리들 자신보다 더 겁많다는 것을"

We are encouraged by seeing others
우리는 다른 사람들을 보는 것에 의해서 격려된다.
that are worse off than ourselves.
우리들 자신보다 형편이 더욱 나쁜 (다른 사람들)
